“Is it July 4th already???”
Around 10PM last night we were startled right off of our couch by strange, scary booming noises emanating from the night. North Enders are used to hearing fireworks almost every other night in the summer, but never in the dead of winter. After seeing “Cloverfield” just seven days ago, we are still feeling a little jittery about hearing mysterious noises in the big city. Too lazy to trek to the roof, we joined several other residents in leaning out our windows despite the frigid temperatures. Upon further listening, and judging by the color flashes of light bouncing off the back of Haymarket station, we deduced that the noises were in fact fireworks exploding over Boston Harbor. But why, on a random Friday night in January, no less? Anyone know what the occasion was?
UPDATE: Brian from Southie was brave enough to snap this camera phone picture of the mons-, er, fireworks in action.

I saw fireworks on Friday night around 10 PM in the area of the Common…maybe someone is just going around the city lighting them off at random places
Ratty!!! Blogging!!

He and a few dozen of his closest friends distracted themselves with the fireworks for a few minutes, then went back to kicking the waiters around the State Room.
