In our ever-evolving attempt to become wizened old coots who repair to our stoop with broom in hand at the very notion of noise or excitement, we would like to report that we just survived a 10-minute fireworks attack over Boston Harbor.
You will remember that back in January we were quite confused by random massive fireworks that shook our windows and rattled our souls. Just Kidding. (But not really.) Those fireworks turned out to be part of Ernie Boch Jr.’s 50th birthday party.
But, tonight? What was the occasion? I mean, it’s Monday, June 23rd.
- Celtics’ 17th Championship?
- Steely Dan Concert at the Bank of America Pavilion?
- Eight hours of death-free trips for Fung Wah?
What say you, good people of Boston?

I googled it and on epa.gov found that “The Coast Guard is creating a temporary safety zone for the
Parexel Fireworks display to be held on June 23, 2008 in Boston,
Massachusetts.”
It looks like Parexel Pharmaceuticals was the company sponsoring the fireworks.
Couldn’t find any good reason for it. Those fireworks must have cost between 1/4 and 1/2 a million.
I searched around online and it looks like the display was a private corporate display for Parexel.
I never even moved off the couch last night during the fireworks. I was sure it would be over by the time I made it up on my roof. When they first started, I assumed the display was for a feast or something. I figured who else would pay for fireworks on a Monday night…
Very strange…. glad I wasn’t the only one clueless about what was going on.
This is my first time on the blog – well done! Look forward to keeping up with this.
